  • Events of National and International Importance
  • History of Bihar and Indian History
  • Geography, Geography of Bihar
  • Indian Polity and Economy
  • Changes in the Economy of Bihar Post-Independence
  • Indian National Movement and the Role of Bihar
  • General Mental Ability.

Mains Exam Pattern & Syllabus:

BPSC Mains have 4 separate papers – One General Hindi Paper, Two General Studies Papers, and One Optional Subject Paper. The detailed syllabus of each Paper are as follows:

General Hindi

This is a compulsory paper that tests the candidate’s knowledge in basic Hindi up to a secondary school level. The test is for a total of 100 marks, the aspirant must score a minimum of 30 marks to qualify. The detailed marks distribution includes:

Essay: 30 Marks
Grammar: 30 Marks
Syntax: 25 Marks

Summarisation: 15 Marks

Note: The marks of the General Hindi paper will not be considered while calculating the final rank as it is only a qualifying paper.

General Studies 1

The General studies 1 paper is one of the ranking papers of Mains. It contains 300 marks and the marks obtained in this paper are taken into consideration for Mains result as well as the final merit list.

Indian Culture: This section will include questions about the broad history of the country (with a special focus on Bihar) from approximately the mid-nineteenth century.

Modern History of India: Questions in this section will cover the introduction and expansion of western education (including technical education), Bihar’s role in the freedom struggle of India, the Santhal Uprising, 1857 in Bihar, the Birsa movement, Champaran Satyagrah, the Quit India Movement 1942, features of Mauryan and Pal art and Patna Qulam painting, as well as questions on Gandhi, Tagore, and Nehru.

Current Events of National and International Importance

Statistical Analysis, Diagrams, and Graphs: This section holds exercises to test the candidate’s ability to make common-sense conclusions from information that is statistical, graphical, or diagrammatic form and their ability to identify deficiencies, limitations, or inconsistencies in it.

General Studies 2

This is the second paper of General Studies and this too contains 300 marks. Like the other one, this paper is counted for the final result too.

Indian Polity: This section will mainly test the aspirant’s knowledge in the current political system in India (with emphasis on Bihar).

Indian Economy and Geography of India: questions pertaining to planning in India as well as the physical, economic, and social geography of India (with emphasis on Bihar).

Role and Impact of Science and Technology in the Development of India

Optional Paper

One Optional Subject is also compulsory for all candidates. There are 34 available Optional Subjects. The optional subjects of Mains syllabus are as follows.
