About of Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)
The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS), administered under the National Defence Fund, was initiated in the academic year 2006-07. The primary objective is to promote higher technical and professional education for dependent wards and widows of Central Armed Police Forces & Assam Rifles (CAPFs & AR) Personnel. Starting from the academic session 2019-20, the scheme expanded its coverage to include the dependent wards of States/UTs Police Personnel martyred during Terror/Naxal attacks. This extension demonstrates a commitment to supporting the education of individuals affected by security challenges, providing educational opportunities to their families.
Duration of Prime Minister Scholarship
The duration of the scholarship is up to five years, depending upon the duration of the course being pursued by the applicant and as approved by the respective regulatory body.
Minimum Entry Qualification
There is a minimum marks of 60% (as Minimum Educational Qualification, MEQ) to qualify the PMSS scholarship. As, the MEQ for MBBS is 12th, for BE or B. Tech it is 12th or diploma and for B. Ed and MBA, it is graduation.

Payment of Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme
The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme scholarship amount under PMSS from the academic year 2023-2024 onwards for applicants selected under fresh and renewal categories would be credited/ transferred directly into the Bank accounts of the selected applicants through Public Finance Management System (PFMS) under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Programme of the Government.
