UGC NET Exam Details:
The idea for the establishment of the UGC was first proposed in the First Five-Year Plan (1951-1956) of India, which recognized the need for a national body to oversee and promote higher education. The UGC-NET exam is one of the oldest eligibility tests in the country. It is an exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of candidates for the posts of Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellow, or both. The exam is conducted twice a year, in the months of June and December, in online mode.
UGC NET Exam Conducting Body:
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has delegated the responsibility of organizing the UGC-NET to the National Testing Agency (NTA). This test is designed to assess the qualifications of Indian citizens for the positions of ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in universities and colleges across India. The UGC-NET is administered by the NTA in a Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, started from December 2018.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility criteria for the UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) are:

UGC NET Qualification for the Test:
Must have post graduate degree with at least 55% of Marks. Appearing or final year post graduation students are also eligible to apply for this test.
UGC NET Exam Pattern: The UGC NET examination conducted 83 no of subjects. The subject is divided into two parts, Paper-1 Teaching & Research Aptitude (General Paper for all) and Paper-2 candidate’s post-graduation subject in their field of specialization.

UGC NET Examination Mode:
Reservation Policy of the Government of India is applicable to UGC-NET According to this, in the Central Universities and Institutions which are deemed to be Universities, the reservation of seats shall be as follows:
The exam is conducted twice a year, in the months of June and December, in online, Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
Reservations:
- 15% of the seats for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates.
- 7.5% of seats Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
- 27% of the seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates as per the Central List.
- 10% of the seats for General-Economically Weaker Sections (General- EWS) candidates.
- 05% of the seats in the above-mentioned categories for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with 40% or more disability.

- To prepare for the UGC NET exam, candidates should start by Understanding the Exam Pattern and Syllabus. They should also refer to previous year question papers and take mock tests to get an idea of the exam.
